QUEST 2015 Conference and EXPO Sessions:
What is solid testing all about within agile teams? What traditional practices are fine to continue, which ones need modification, and what totally new approaches are necessary. Moving from traditional to agile testing is often a high-wire balancing act to some degree with little clear direction.
In this class, experienced Agile Coach Bob Galen will share with you the critical lessons from teams he’s observed who’ve successfully made the transition. We’ll explore the requisite team skills, how to deal with agile requirements, the right strategies for developing agile automation, how to plan and test within your agile team, effective agile test metrics, and aspects of quality for agile teams. The lessons will be shared via real stories from real agile teams who have crossed this chasm—so no hypotheticals here.
Bob will share the Three Pillars of Agile Testing model to help you define and refine your agile transformation strategies. You will walk away from this class knowing how to begin your agile transformation, or, if you’re already mired in agility, how to raise the bar for increased and sustained performance.
By attending this course, you will understand:
- The keys in building or transitioning your teams towards agile.
- The level of planning, execution, and reporting that is relevant for agile testing.
- The keys to building and maintaining a multi-tiered agile automation approach.
- The central changes of test leadership and management needed to support the transformation.
- The importance and strategies for a quality focus instead of a testing focus.
This course takes a “Myth” vs. “Reality” format where we explore specific topic areas that are relevant to a transition towards agile testing practices and techniques. These topics comprise the “Mindset of the Agile Tester”.
- Transforming your Team

The final wrap-up is a deep dive into the 3-pillars framework for establishing a solid and balanced approach for transitioning to agile quality and testing.
The 3 Pillars framework facilitates effective agile transformation and establishes an agile quality/testing strategy that is balanced across various activities and tactics. Far too often agile adoptions focus just on the development teams, agile frameworks, or technical practices as a part of their adoption strategies without considering the quality and testing issues. Risk-based testing, exploratory testing, paired collaboration around agile requirements, agile test design, and TDD-BDD-Functional testing automation are explored as tactics within a balanced Three Pillars framework.
